Marriages on Facebook ??

Other day, I was out on lunch with my collegues. We were all discssing about general topics and things going around. Somebody started the topic of 'facebook' and the 'Social Network' movie. I recently saw the social network movie. What a movie! I would recommend everyone to watch this movie isrespective of whether you like facebook or not like it.

Many people are against sharing all personal information on facebook. I also have some constraints and some information that I don't like sharing on my profile. But these days, those things are getting lesser and lesser. The way people have started communicating on these social networking sites, it's incredible or should I say insane. It has somewhat revolutionalized the way we share information, pictures in day to day life.

The movie was exhilarating. To get such a genius idea at an age of 20, implementing it and carrying it through all the way, it's incredible and I would give to Mark Zuckerberg. Even if he stole someone else's idea ( possibility/rumour), it's still him who was the only one who beleived in it. In the movie, they show the attitude with which Mark dealt the accusations. At no point, he hesitated in saying that Facebook was his baby. When you have an idea, when you carried it through, you have got to believe in it. That's the mark of a genius. I loved the way they have portrayed Mark's character in the movie. I am of the opinion that whatever was shown in the movie, at least 75% of is true. I still need to read Mark's book once it comes out in stores. That would reveal way more interesting facts about the initial phase of facebook as a company.

Discussion is still going on at the lunch table. Suddenly, Mary* asked Rachel*, 'are you single on 'facebook?' For a moment after hearing the question, I was surprised. I was listening to the conversation. Mary continues explaining, "These days, people aren't single until they post it on their facebook or people aren't committed until they post it on their facebook". I was pleasantly surprised as well as shocked by this conversation. Before 5 years, I would have never imagined such a conversation happening between people. One of my other colleague goes even one step farther by saying "Very soon, we are going to have marriages decided on Facebook, people will no longer need to go through any ceremony or any other thing. They just need to post on facebook that they are married and that's it :-)"

Is this happening? I don't see it happening with me for sure. But who knows, there are people who may be against my opinion and they may start getting married on facebook!

Woww! What a change!! In 1990s, people had never imagined anything about Search Engine, come 1998 - we had GOOGLE. In 2000, people would have never imagined something like facebook and come 2004, we had something new. What's next..........?

*Names in the story are changed for privacy purposes :-)"

Haha! It's an interesting concept. There could be a "wedding app"!! I'm not much of a "facebookie" but I do see people post even minute/mundane details of their life..so there are some people out there who think that "you are what your facebook profile/wall says you are". So not surprised about the status conversation, although, like you said a few years ago it would've sounded almost outrageous! :)
